Wind Beneath their Wings

The Emily Shane Foundation’s Fourth Annual Butterfly Release Fundraiser Event takes place Sunday, November 4, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Alumni Park at Pepperdine University. Created in memory of 13-year-old Emily Shane, the Foundation aims to help at-risk middle school students soar to academic heights. The Foundation’s SEA (Successful Educational Achievement) Program honors mentors and tutors. The event features live musical entertainment, a Silent Auction, Children’s Activity Table, Mentor Tribute Table, plus a butterfly education table hosted by the Malibu Monarch Project.

The Pacific Palisades Woman’s Club presents its 33rd Holiday Home Tour and Boutique, Sunday, November 11, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free parking is available and a free shuttle transports guests to each festively decorated home. Pick up tickets at Pacific Palisades Woman’s Club, 901 Haverford Ave. This year’s tour features breathtaking and fabulous homes representing the varied styles and character of Pacific Palisades. Consider purchasing tickets for a group or as a gift for someone special! The Holiday Boutique at the Pacific Palisades Woman’s Club runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and includes many vendors offering a large selection of hand-picked holiday gifts, clothing, jewelry and personal items. Proceeds benefit community nonprofits.

The Malibu Half-Marathon & 5K event celebrates its 10 year anniversary, Saturday, November 4, at 7 a.m. Join the community at Zuma Beach to kick off the run in a picture-perfect setting along the scenic USATF-certified course along the famed Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. Awarded the 2018 RRCA California State Half Marathon Championship, the annual event proceeds on Westward Beach Road and then turns left on Pacific Coast Highway, passing Zuma Beach, one of the most distinctive landmarks on PCH and a cinematic backdrop for numerous films and TV commercials. After making the turnaround, just north of San Nicolas Canyon, runners head back down the coast to the finish line. With no significant hills, this course is perfect for anyone looking to attempt a personal record or just looking for a gorgeous, well-organized event. Ample parking is available for $5 all day. Event proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Malibu.

The Pacific Palisades Community Council Citizen of the Year & Golden Sparkplug Awards Gala takes place December 13, from 6:30 to 10 p.m., at Gladstones Restaurant, 17300 Pacific Coast Hwy, in Pacific Palisades. Each year, the PPCC honors a Citizen of the Year for their service to the community, as well as presents a Golden Sparkplug Award to honor those who have an idea and effort resulting in an original contribution to Pacific Palisades that benefits the community.
